Volunteering - thoughts from a club volunteer

Volunteering to make your community better is a wonderful thing to do!

I am a volunteer for United DFC and I can tell you, the best feeling in the world is seeing the players smile. United DFC staff, board members, volunteers and our amazing communities have literally “united” to bring soccer back. We have worked hard, getting everything together to make our Return to Play a huge success! Thank you to everyone, especially our amazing technical directors, Iain King and Oliver Hewish, and our office staff, Pattie Morrison and Deborah Mert, who have pulled this epic season together under our Executive Director, David Cambell’s guidance.

Yes, there are still some areas we are working on, and that’s where you can assist.

Come volunteer your time to be an assistant coach, team manager or general volunteer. Our club’s success is built on our members' contributions.

So the next time you are at practice or a game – please thank your coaches or team manager. Send a quick email letting the team staff know they are appreciated. Remember to show kindness and patience. Many volunteers are coaching teams that their child isn’t even on or are coaching multiple teams. Remember, we are volunteers with one common goal – getting our players on the field and developing a love of soccer and activity.

Gloria Mannette, Volunteer

Do you have a question, comment, suggestion or concern?

United DFC is a community based club. We have lots of volunteers, coaches, team staff, players, parents, staff and board members. We recognize that it can be daunting to try and communicate. We want everyone to have a voice and more importantly to have their voice be heard.

To help manage this process we have established a line of communications for the club. As a player or a parent you should first communicate with your coach. If the coach is unable to answer your question or resolve your concerns they will ask the technical directors to step in. If the TDs cannot answer the question or resolve this issue they will ask the Executive Director to step in.

The last and final step would be for the Executive Director to address the board if the issue is unable to be resolved.

For all other day to day questions or concerns you may also call the office where our staff are available to help answer any questions.

Club Photography

United DFC is extremely fortunate to have the expertise of professional photographer Paul Morris on our Social Media Committee. Paul is training volunteers to take photographs of their teams (and other teams) this summer as fits within their schedules. If you would like to learn how to take professional looking action photos from Paul, please complete this form https://forms.gle/shqgrTtjBqw2yWCA9  United DFC can’t thank Paul enough for the quality action shots he has captured to date and extends sincere appreciation for his volunteer efforts still to come.

If you are willing to take photographs for your own team or already have some great shots for social media, please contact Britt Pigat at brittp@udfc.ca

Looking for Coaches

United DFC is always welcoming new coaches, assistant coaches and apprentice coaches. If you are interested in serving your community through volunteer work, coaching soccer is a fantastic way to share your skills and have fun in a safe and supportive environment. Dip your toe or jump right in. We welcome coaches of all levels, ages and experience.

Coaching looks amazing on a resume! Contact susans@udfc.ca to get involved.

If you are a parent who attends games and practices anyway, consider offering to help the coach with whatever is needed. It is a great way to get involved and be part of the experience. Many hands make light work. (Especially at the mini level)
