Mesut Mert Appointed  New Academy Manager

UNITED DFC is today thrilled to announce the appointment of Mesut Mert as our new Academy Manager.

Mesut, Assistant Coach with Halifax Wanderers in the Canadian Premier League last season, has had a storied career in the game and starred for Montreal Impact FC as a player in the professional ranks.

Now the Head Men’s Coach of Saint Mary’s University, Mesut is continuing his work at Wanderers in charge of the new Under-23 program.

He will mix those roles with his post at United DFC and is delighted to return to the club after previously working here as a Technical Director.

Mesut said: “I’m really excited to be back, I have been working with the club over the last month or so in the High Performance Training Program.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with some players I have coached in the past and meeting new ones too.

“The club is in a good place and I look forward to working throughout the divisions of UDFC to help both improve the players and mentor the coaches.”

Director of Soccer Iain King was intent on finding a way to draw on Mesut’s vast knowledge and expertise when it became apparent there was a chance to make it happen.

Iain said: “Mes will be a huge help to all the players and coaches at the club and I look forward to working with and learning from him.

“From our Skill Centre program to the new enhanced U12/13 programs and the competitive teams he will be a fantastic addition to the Technical Staff.

“He will also be heading up the new UDFC Academy program in the summer and I know all of the age groups involved are going to enjoy that new offering.”

Mesut starts in earnest on Monday March 21 and we look forward to seeing the impact he will have in his new role.
