Garcia And Rampersad Join Wanderers Guest Coach Initiative

UNITED DFC is thrilled to welcome back the Halifax Wanderers Guest Coach Initiative with captain Andres Rampersad and star striker Akeem Garcia joining the Technical Staff for the Fall/Winter season.

Last winter Akeem and his Wanderers team-mates Cory Bent and Alex Marshall worked with UDFC’s High-Performance Training players in the weekly sessions they attend to augment their club practices.

This time around Garcia is joined by Wanderers captain and influential midfielder Rampersad and the players have already proved a huge hit with the players they have worked with.

United DFC Director of Soccer Iain King said: “Akeem and Andres came straight into the HPOT practices after their Canadian Premier League season ended and they are so popular with the players already.

"Akeem did a Strikers Clinic with our forward players that worked so well and it was great last week to see Andres get so involved in his session with our U15/17 girls group on counter-attack.

"I am a big believer that if you can’t see it, you can’t be it. This proximity to professional players is a terrific opportunity for our young athletes in their quest to improve.”

Trinidad and Tobago international Garcia is now in the swing of the coaching work as he tackles his second winter season collaborating with UDFC.

Akeem said: “The Strikers Clinic was a lot of fun and it was great to see how engaged the players were.

"Also it kept me on my toes with my finishing, my shots had to be good to beat UDFC U17 keeper Cameron Greenlaw who was great on the night.”

Rampersad was a pivotal player for HFX last season as he anchored the midfield with his classy presence winning him an army of fans at The Wanderers Grounds.

Now he is delighted to be able to give something back and he admitted: “I was blown away by the level skill in the U15/U17 girls group.

"They were brilliant on the night and I really enjoyed the session, I’m looking forward to our return in January.”

UDFC’s AAA players are currently on their mandated Winter Break from the game which will last for the month of December.

They will return to club practices on Wednesday, January 5 with High-Performance Training resuming on Monday, January 10.
